Leather is a natural material that doesn't get along well with water. Even though our straps are treated, they are not waterproof. So avoid immersing them — no baths, pools, or oceans. No exceptions.
Light splashes from hand washing or dishwashing are no problem, though.
If your strap gets wet, don't dry it in the sun. Blot gently with a cloth and let it air dry in a shaded place at room temperature. And absolutely no hairdryer.
Since the Apple Watch has been waterproof since Series 2, you can definitely wear it during workouts, at the pool, or at the beach. However, we recommend opting for straps that are designed for water exposure — such as sport bands made of fluoroelastomer or nylon — which won’t get damaged by water or sweat. Moisture trapped under leather isn’t comfortable, and sweat, chlorine, and salt water are harsh on leather and will quickly ruin it. We've seen a few come through our customer service... it’s not a pretty sight.
Care
Caring for your leather strap
No maintenance is necessary or recommended for your leather straps. The leather is treated for maximum durability and develops a beautiful patina over time. So avoid cleaning, conditioning, waxing or treating it. Products made for shoes, handbags, clothing, car seats or sofas are not suitable for our straps, which use a much finer leather.Avoid using the following, as your strap’s delicate leather won’t absorb them:
- Cleansing milk
- Shoe polish
- Leather cream
- Shoe cream
- Sneaker cleaners
- Leather oils
- Leather soap
- Suede shoe care products
- Waterproofing sprays
- Leather shampoo
